J.D. and The Phuzz is a four piece rock and roll outfit group based out of Kankakee, IL. The group plays a variety of Rock, Southern Rock, Classic Rock, and Jam based cover and original music. Frontman J.D. Kings’ searing guitar work and gritty vocals shine through the solid and inventive backbone of bassist Curt West and percussionist extraordinaire Kevin Johnston. Andy Wheeler pulls double duty as the bands rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, and second vocalist. The group has many years of playing together; Wheeler and King are the nucleus of the former Kankakee band Space Madness, a group known for their original fusion sound and upbeat live shows. King and West are part of the group Sanchos, known for their Wednesday night open mic revue. A former Kankakee resident, drummer Kevin Johnston shines in a light that surpasses a mere backbeat. His role flows from pounding thunder to subtle ambient rhythms, all the while complimenting the ever-changing musical landscape that is The Phuzz. At times, King will set down the guitar, pick up his drumsticks, and join Johnston in a foray into percussive Zen. The band plays a variety of establishments in the greater Kankakee area, along with other venues in Will and Cook Counties.
